I worked as a UI/UX design student assistant at Novozymes for a year and half, or until my contract ended due to my graduation. Since then, I have collaborated with them regularly as an external consultant.
This page shows highlights from the UI/UX Design work I did for them before their rebranding in 2022.
Novozymes® is a world-leading biotech company that focuses mainly on the research, development and production of enzymes. The company’s products are used globally in over 30 industries, but everything from bread and beverages to our fuel and medicine is produced with the help of enzymes.

My responsibility was to make sure that every component was properly structured for rapid, interactive prototyping. To do so, I used Figma’s auto-layout feature and categorized them into component variants, adding interactions to the relevant ones.
I designed and optimized several icons for the Novozymes icon library.
Along with the front-end lead, I established a UI team within Novozymes. Our aim was to ensure maximum alignment between designers and developers, encouraging stronger collaboration between the two teams.

The FMC Simulator is an enzyme blend manufacturing cost calculator, built with the aim to move internal, highly specialised scientists away from cumbersome, non-user-friendly legacy systems into a modern, capable and intuitive web application.
The challenge I faced in this project was to reach a good enough understanding of the immensely technical work those scientists perform to be able to redesign their processes. I did that by staying in close collaboration with our users and the PO, who had a similar background to them.
Along with the PO, I put the visual prototype of the application through several rounds of user testing before pushing it to development.
Benefits:
- Much faster estimation times; each simulation went from taking 30 minutes to under 5 minutes.
- Higher level of detail of estimations.
- Better consistency and a proper audit trail of carried out estimations.
It is safe to say that our users were thrilled with the end result. Some even shared that they no longer procrastinate on the tasks that used to feel dreadful to them.

Novozymes is committed to accelerate their journey towards net zero carbon emissions, already reducing them by 50% by 2030.
In collaboration with a team from the Novozymes Global Brand and Positioning department, I designed a set of webpages that communicate those efforts to the general public. I set up the layout of the pages, created some of the illustrations and animations, and communicated with developers.

NCR is an internal application designed to simplify the process of reporting errors and accidents that may come up throughout the production process of enzymes and other Novozymes products.
The application's user base consists of scientists, production managers and other specialists from the many different stages of the company's production chain. As with any product design process, speaking to our users and collecting qualitative data on their work processes was a crucial part of it. Therefore, I got the opportunity to visit Novozymes' largest production facility in Kalundborg, Denmark, to get a deeper understanding of the production processes from beginning to end. There, I also presented the project to our end-users and interviewed them on their activities and needs.
Before the application came into use, resolving reported errors would often take weeks or months, as the process was unclear to employees. Leaving production batches on stand-by was extremely costly for the company, since cost of each batch can often reach thousands - or even millions - of dollars.
Around 300 users have now already been trained to use the application and that number is expected to eventually increase to ~500 regular users.

Frontia is an enzyme blend by Novozymes that is used in corn wet-milling processes to increase yield, while saving energy and reducing CO2 emissions. The Frontia calculators are used by plant managers to calculate how their mill can benefit from using the enzymes.
Simple version: I was a part of retouching the design of the already-existing simple Frontia calculator. It is available publicly here.
(Please note that there is a bug on the page that does not allow all browsers to display the bold fonts I had included in the designs. Despite my efforts to have that fixed, the error remains.)
Advanced version: This version would have been available to already existing customers only. However, after finishing the designs, the project unfortunately got cancelled.
